Cervical laminaria dilator
Used to slowly open the cervix; after the laminaria is inserted, it expands to four to six times its size as it absorbs moisture. This leads to the opening of the cervix so that gynecological instruments, such as a suction cannula or curette can be inserted.
Artificially produced following the example of naturally dried kelp – an algae species – which have served as natural laminaria for a long time.
